Why does my tuna weigh less than the label shows?

No water is added to Safe Catch products labeled "Do not drain". The product weight includes the liquid, which is the fish's natural juices and oils that separate from the fish during cooking and surround the solid steak in the can. This liquid contains healthy Omega-3s and is intended to be mixed back in before eating. (Our related FAQ article: Why do Safe Catch Tuna and Salmon say: Do Not Drain?)

Please be assured that our canned tuna products are carefully packed and loaded at an exact weight of 142 grams to avoid underfilling. If your product ever weighs less than 142 grams with the liquid included, please send a photo of the gram scale reading and the can lid showing the lot code and best-by date stamp to info@safecatch.com. We'll gladly share your report with our Quality Assurance team and provide a resolution for any issues.
