What's the difference between your tuna products?

Safe Catch Elite is made with wild-caught Skipjack tuna—the most plentiful tuna in the ocean—making it a good sustainable seafood choice. It is considered a light tuna, which is darker in color and richer in flavor profile compared to Albacore “white” tuna. We test our Elite wild tuna to a limit of 0.10 ppm Hg (mercury)—10X stricter than the FDA limit, which is why this is recommended as the Official Tuna of the American Pregnancy Association.

Safe Catch Wild Albacore tuna is the lightest in color. Albacore is a white tuna and has a milder flavor profile compared to other types of tuna. Albacore has lower biomass and only reproduces 1x/year. Because of their longer life spans, they bio-accumulate more mercury than other wild tuna species over time. We test our Albacore to a limit of 0.38 ppm Hg (mercury).

Safe Catch Ahi, Wild Yellowfin tuna sits somewhere in between Skipjack and Albacore in terms of flavor profile, offering a perfect balance of lightness and flavor. We test our Ahi to the same strict mercury limit as the Elite—0.10 ppm Hg (mercury)—10X stricter than the FDA limit, which is why this, along with our Elite Wild Tuna,  is recommended as the Official Tuna of the American Pregnancy Association.
