Can I eat my product past the Best By Date?
Please note that the best-by date is not an expiration date, but a federal labeling requirement that indicates the best flavor and texture, not safety.
While Safe Catch cannot make any health claims referring to whether or not it is safe to eat after the Best-By Date, the USDA, through the Food Safety and Inspection Service, says that canned fish can be stored for 2-5 years.
You may still eat this tuna as long as the packaging isn't damaged - it is just going to taste the best if consumed by its Best-By Date. We recommend doing olfactory and visual checks before consuming.
If you prefer not to eat these cans or pouches, we ask that you consider donating them to a local food bank.
